The State Nursing
Scholarship and Living Expenses Grant Program has been
consolidated into the Workforce Shortage Student
Assistance Grant Program. The State Nursing
program is no longer making any awards.
If you received an award under the
State Nursing Scholarship, you have agreed to fulfill the nursing service
obligation. The obligation requires the recipient to serve as a nurse on a
full-time basis, one year for each academic year, or portion thereof,
tuition assistance was received; or on a part-time basis, two years for each
academic year, or portion thereof, tuition assistance was received.
Full-time employment is defined as 35 or more hours per week.
Part-time employment is defined as 20-34 hours per week by the employment
service must be completed at an eligible Maryland organization and must
begin within six months of graduation. An eligible organization is defined
as a licensed hospital, public health agency, nursing home, home health
agency or adult day care center which is authorized by the Secretary of
Health and Mental Hygiene. Employment as a nurse at a health maintenance
organization (HMO) or a physician's private office does not meet the service requirement. If the
service obligation is not met, the award must be repaid with interest.

you must perform your service in consecutive years.
